Today was exasperating because it was hard to get the

injured soldiers down the hill due to the shooting.  The

soldiers were suffering from lack of water and it was an

awfully hot day.  One soldier was choking on dirt in his

mouth because a grenade exploded in front of him.

When Duffy and I got back the soldiers were terrified.

We heard someone screaming in pain further up the

hillside.  It was a soldier who got hit in the head and

stabbed with a bayonet.  He was crying out for me, Jack

Simpson.  They are now calling the Valley “Hell Valley”.

I think we should all just go home and spend time with
